Free corrections · managed farm RTK

RTK2go, Centipede or a managed RTK network?

Free RTK corrections can reduce running costs. When fieldwork depends on guidance, it also matters who maintains the base, checks its position and helps when something stops working.

Choose RTK that fits the way you farm

Look beyond the connection.

RTK2go and Centipede offer correction access without a subscription charge. You still need compatible equipment and connectivity. A managed service adds an ongoing relationship with the people responsible for your setup, monitoring and support.

RTK2go’s operator describes a free public caster for sharing base data. Centipede requires installation evidence and positioning reports, and publishes validation statuses. See RTK2go’s operator and Centipede’s validation guidance.

Position calibration

Initial calibration against the Ordnance Survey network, with recalibration when required.

Integrated monitoring

Proprietary software developed in-house for our own needs, fully integrated with the base stations for reliability, diagnostics and remote access.

Backup provisions

Battery and integrated 4G backup help protect against interruptions. Redundant servers and automatic server failover support the wider managed system.

Ongoing assistance

Remote configuration, updates and fault diagnosis, with access to other available RTK Solutions bases across the network.

Backup availability depends on power, mobile signal and local network coverage. These provisions help reduce disruption; they do not guarantee uninterrupted RTK.

The details that matter in the field

Free corrections can be useful. Before relying on any base, understand how it is installed, maintained and supported.

What if someone moves or switches off the base?

With a contributed station, its host controls the physical installation, electricity and internet connection. If the host switches it off, replaces equipment or relocates the antenna, your correction source may disappear or change. Unless you have an arrangement with that operator, do not assume you will receive advance notice.

Centipede monitors outages and notifies base operators, but its terms do not promise continuous availability. They also place responsibility on users to validate data for critical applications. Read Centipede’s service terms.

With our managed farm-base package, you own the base and have a direct support relationship with us. Contact us before moving the antenna so its configuration and position can be checked.

Does an RTK FIX mean the base position is correct?

A receiver can produce precise relative positioning while its absolute position is offset because the base coordinates are wrong. Moving an antenna without updating its coordinates can introduce the same problem. Emlid explains how base coordinates affect rover position.

For farming, this makes base stability and coordinate consistency important when returning to saved guidance lines. This applies to paid and free services alike; a subscription alone does not establish accuracy.

How does Ordnance Survey calibration compare?

For an installation in Great Britain, ask how the base coordinates were established and checked against the appropriate reference. Being listed on a community network does not, by itself, establish an Ordnance Survey reference check.

Centipede has published positioning and validation procedures. A base can be accurately positioned using other recognised methods, so it would be misleading to describe every community base as uncalibrated. Centipede’s requirements describe its evidence and positioning reports.

Our managed farm-base package includes calibration against the Ordnance Survey network. OS Net provides the national GNSS reference infrastructure for Great Britain.

Will the corrections work with my tractor?

We provide corrections across agricultural equipment brands that accept compatible NTRIP RTK. The receiver model, manufacturer unlocks, correction format and internet connection still need checking.

For any service, also check the distance to the base, satellite visibility and correction continuity in your fields. A nearby base listed on a map is a starting point, not a complete compatibility or coverage check. Read the NTRIP requirements.
